John Coxon Coaches Suck And They Don't Know It!

Dr Marc Dussault from Exponential Programs (www.exponentialprograms.com) took a swing at business coaches and life coaches in his recent Business Mastery Blog where he advised readers to be careful about who they retained as a business coach or a life coach. The heading of this blog was provided by Marc in his blog To me it is clear Marc had recently had a bad day on the squash court and as a result he tried to draw at best a tenuous link between… Continue

Sally Parrish I Choose Life

An oldie, but a goodie - work life balance. I am very passionate about the topic of work life balance; what it really means, whether it is achievable, the consequences without it. In fact, you can take a free online work life balance survey which I spent several years building. What a funny saying ' work life balance'. It suggests that there are just two things; go to work and have a life. Yet when we use a wheel of life we k… Continue

Sally Parrish Are you running a Coaching business?

I'm going through one of those periods where no matter what seminar or event I go to, or what book I pick up to read, I seem to be getting the same lesson. I keep getting reminded of the difference between running a business and being self employed within your own business. In E-Myth, Gerber explains that the trap of a business owner is in getting stuck in the Technician side of the work and not getting time to be an Entrepreneur. We all know the saying ' work on your business and not in your… Continue

Sally Parrish Will High Court ruling change our roles?

Last week in Australia there was a High Court ruling that will have an impact on all future liability cases. Here is the situation in brief: Man rides to pub on his motorbike, man has a few drinks, keys to motorbike are handed over to bartender, man has more drinks, bartender gives man back his keys to motorbike, man gets on motorbike and dies in fatal road accident. Now I am not clear on the details of who said or did what - and even these facts as I have printed may be incorrect - but the ess… Continue

Sally Parrish Supervision Event last night

We ran our first supervision event last night and it was a wonderful experience. It is difficult to accurately define what supervision is and everyone that experiences it, seems to give it a different meaning! Essentially small groups of coaches (4, 5 or 6 ideally) share a coaching concern, challenge, issue, triumph (whatever is forefront of your mind in terms of your coaching) and the other coaches present assist that coach to process/work through/contemplate or to resolve that item. Learning… Continue

Sally Parrish Understanding Cash Flow

Cash flow is one of the most difficult things to get a grip of in business and poor cash flow is one of the key contributors to the amount of businesses that fail. A business can have thousands of dollars in the pipeline and still go broke if the money coming in is not properly balanced against the money that must be paid out. The reality for most small businesses is that they pay all their bills first and pay themselves last. This means that the business owner can go without pay for months at… Continue

Sally Parrish What exactly is a Coach - and why does it matter?????

There are so many people calling themselves Coaches – the term Coach seems to apply to just about every profession. Financial planners are calling themselves Wealth Coaches, Management Consultants are calling themselves Business Coaches and personal fitness trainers are calling themselves Fitness Coaches. It seems just about anyone wants to use the title ‘Coach’ right now.
